Hey People!!

I've been hearing all this time that today is Halloween, but what's that exactly? In North America or in some parts of Europe they know what it is, but I think here, in Spain, everyone talks about it without knowing what it's.

According with all the things that I've found, Halloween or Hallowe'en is also known as Allhalloween that comes from "All Hallows' Eve". It is a yearly celebration observed in a number of countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day.

The most popular place where Halloween is celebrate is in USA, but it comes from Ireland (Gingers Power! It became popular in US because of all the Irish immigration that happened a long ago.

Halloween has its origins in the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain (pronounced "sah-win").

The festival of Samhain is a celebration of the end of the harvest season in Gaelic culture. Samhain was a time used by the ancient pagans to take stock of supplies and prepare for winter. The ancient Gaels believed that on October 31, the boundaries between the worlds of the living and the dead overlapped and the deceased would come back to life and cause havoc such as sickness or damaged crops.

The festival would frequently involve bonfires. It is believed that the fires attracted insects to the area which attracted bats to the area. These are additional attributes of the history of Halloween. Masks and costumes were worn in an attempt to mimic the evil spirits or appease them.

A jack-o'-lantern (sometimes also spelled Jack O'Lantern) is typically a carved pumpkin. It is associated chiefly with the holiday Halloween. Typically the top is cut off, and the inside flesh then scooped out; an image, usually a monstrous face, is carved onto the outside surface, and the lid replaced. During the night, a candle is placed inside to illuminate the effect. The term is not particularly common outside North America, although the practice of carving lanterns for Halloween is.

In folklore, an old Irish folk tale tells of Jack, a lazy yet shrewd farmer who uses a cross to trap the Devil. One story says that Jack tricked the Devil into climbing an apple tree, and once he was up there Jack quickly placed crosses around the trunk or carved a cross into the bark, so that the Devil couldn't get down. Another myth says that Jack put a key in the Devil's pocket while he was suspended upside-down.

Along the years this celebration has been involved also in the Christians celebrations. It is called Allhallowtide and it is divided in 3 different parts: All Hallows' Eve, All Hallow's Day, and All Souls' Day.
It is the triduum encompassing the Western Christian observances of All Hallows' Eve (Hallowe'en), All Saints' Day (All Hallows') and All Souls' Day, which last from October 31 to November 2 annually. Allhallowtide is a time to remember the dead, including martyrs, saints, and all faithful departed Christians.

Halloween In SPAIN.

Both Mexicans and Spaniards celebrate the "Day of the Dead" (In Spanish: Día de Muertos) that is a a holiday that focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. In Mexico and Spain the day is a bank holiday. The celebration takes place on October 31, November 1 and November 2, in connection with the triduum of Allhallowtide: All Hallows' Eve, Hallowmas (The same as All Hallow's Day), and All Souls' Day.

And... How do you celebrate Halloween?
